New competition At The Show

SA in a Jar - Enter Now

Competition entries for the 2026 Royal Adelaide Show are officially open across more than 40 categories, including livestock, handicrafts, horticulture, and of course, the much-loved cookery.
This year, Cookery celebrates 100 years of competition at The Royal Adelaide Show. And to mark the occasion, 891 ABC Radio Adelaide has unveiled a brand new cookery category which will feature in competitions….drum roll please……’891 ABC Adelaide’s South Australia in a Jar’.

Afternoons presenter Jo Laverty has thrown the challenge out for South Australians to enter the cookery competition and create their own preserve featuring a South Australian ingredient.

Entries can be either a jar of jam, chutney or relish, with the only requirement being it needs to include an ingredient that is distinctly South Australian, whether that may be SA-grown produce or a well-known SA flavour.

It could be an ingredient that is native to the State, like quandongs or lemon myrtle, or one of the many crops for which SA’s horticulture industry is famous; think Adelaide Hills apples or pears, Coonawarra grapes, or Riverland citrus, apricots and almonds. What about potatoes from the South East or tomatoes from the market gardens in Virginia? Or, you could even include fruit grown in your own suburban SA back garden, like mulberries from Granny’s tree or zucchinis from your veggie patch.

How to enter – Anyone can enter the ‘SA in a Jar’ competition – it’s open to South Australians of all ages. Entries will be judged live on the ABC Stage at The Royal Adelaide Show in September. Winners will receive an official Royal Adelaide Show sash. Applications close Friday 19 June 2026.For more details and entry information, visit Royal
